Nadar explains to a friend his news about the balloon Le Géant, made in collaboration with Louis and Jules Godard. This balloon, the largest ever built, had a volume of 6,000 m3 for 45 meters high and the two-story gondola could carry nearly thirty passengers. Nadar reports an interview with Théophile Gautier while he was "going to his balloon factory, exposed at Godillot Delessert's", the famous Parisian workshop where he exposed the balloon before its presentation in London. He was seriously injured during the second flight on October 18, whose after-effects he recalls here. In order to cover the manufacturing costs, estimated at "150,000 fr.", Nadar specifies that "the Crystal Palace exhibition will need to be extended for a long time". The ascents and exhibitions were never profitable. To finish, he illustrates his letter with a caricature entitled "The Toad and the Niece!
