The Alfred Jarry Theater and public hostility. (Paris), 1930, in-8, paperback, cover illustrated in colors by Gaston-Louis Roux, 48 p. In a green morocco spine folder, with a long title and a slipcase (Devauchelle). First edition. The Alfred Jarry Theater will give 4 shows between 1927 and 1930. At the end of this tumultuous adventure and beyond its commercial and public failure, Vitrac and Artaud decided to publish this booklet which is at the same time a balance sheet, a manifesto and a program - in particular concerning the direction of the actors - in order to relaunch the company and find new financing. It is illustrated with 9 full-page photomontages by Eli Lotar, featuring Artaud, Vitrac and Josette Lusson. The latter will appear the following year on the photographs of the project of staging of Lewis' Monk. This publication will be the last gasp of the Alfred Jarry Theater. This copy includes a beautiful autograph letter signed by Artaud on the first page: To my great friend Jacques Hebertot with whom we will one day do great things. Jacques Hebertot was of considerable importance in the world of theater in the 1920s and Artaud worked with him at the beginning of his career.
