Three-night itineraries to discover New Zealand's two islands
From Wellington's art galleries to Queenstown's suspension bridges or Rippo's vineyards, from Mount Cook to Akaroa's marae, all the faces of Maori and New Zealand culture and nature are on this Route to Happiness in the "Land of the Long White Cloud" (Aotearoa). A journey between two islands, a journey of countless beauties...
Wharekauhau Country Estate (1 night)
In Maori, Wharekauhau means "place of knowledge", because it is here that the elders learned their art. A little over two hundred years ago, a large sheep farm was established here and is still in operation.
Today, on this bucolic site overlooking Palliser Bay, the house cultivates a refined art of living. The decoration of the cottages elegantly combines antiques and natural materials. The estate features extensive gardens with native plants, a croquet lawn, flowerbeds, and an orchard and vegetable garden that provide the restaurant with delicious Kiwi cuisine.
Otahuna Lodge (1 night)
In the heart of a 19th century Victorian estate, Otahuna Lodge seamlessly blends past and present: period woodwork, stained glass windows and fifteen working fireplaces are matched with all the modern comforts of home and a rich collection of contemporary New Zealand art. Outside, Otahuna, which means "little hill among hills" in Maori, offers a grand view of the Canterbury Plains and Banks Peninsula landscape. The song of the New Zealand chiming bird invites guests to discover secret glades and ponds, and the 120 varieties of fruits, vegetables, nuts and mushrooms that grow in the historic gardens.
Blanket Bay (1 night)
On the shore of Lake Wakatipu, forty-five minutes from Queenstown, Blanket Bay Lodge offers spectacular views of the Humboldt Mountains, which drop into the water. Wild, mineral and green, the landscape finds its extension in the buildings of the property, in stone and wood.
With large windows looking out onto the lake and large fireplaces, the rooms, cottages and villas of the estate are elegant cocoons where you can rest after one of the many excursions offered. Whether it's a helicopter tour of Milford Sound Fjord, a hike in Mount Aspiring National Park, a river jet ski session, or a fly-fishing trip, the Blanket Bay team can't get enough. Unless you want to let yourself be enveloped by the serenity of the place and relax in the spa or the bar, which offers a wide selection of New Zealand wines.
This itinerary includes, for two people:
- One night in a Cottage Suite at Wharekauhau Country Estate on a half-board basis (breakfast and dinner);
