L.A.S. "CGBachet", Lyon May 1, 1634; 1 page in-fol. Beautiful and rare letter to a scholar on Greek authors, one of the three known letters of Bachet. He sends him back his volume of the heroic Greek poets with a million thanks for the singular favor he has done him, for which he will be eternally grateful. "I have taken a copy of what is necessary for me from the life of Homer, and I have extracted several things which are in the Homeric Questions of Porphyry, and which I thought might be useful to me. If I did not fear to bother you, I would beg you now to send me the Greek Homer which has interlinear glosses, and your scholies in the margin, and [] an author whom Fr. PETAUD alleges more than once in his treatise entitled, Rationarium temporum, in similar terms, Anonymus author, qui Troica versibus scripsit ", etc. He could find something good in these authors to enrich his comments on Apollodorus, "a book which I do not like less than my PLUTARCH, and the work is not less advanced. As for my essay on Plutarch, it is ready to go to press, and I have made this trip from Lyon in part, to find a bookseller who is willing to undertake the printing of it: but I do not yet know if I will be able to complete it. For our printer in Le Bourg does not have the courage to undertake it at his own expense, fearing that he will not be able to publish it, because he has had great difficulty in disposing of my Epistles of Ovid, of which he still has four to five hundred copies. Whatever it is, when I will have made all my efforts to find a printer, if I cannot find one, I will console myself, considering that what I have put in the net, makes a part of all my work, and that I will have always worked valiantly, and advanced my work of as much ". Provenance: Charon sale (April 16, 1846); letter quoted by Raoul Bonnet, having served for his Isographie.
