An American film photographer, he began working as an assistant cameraman at the age of 15. His talent was quickly recognized, and he became a photographer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1928 and then worked for Columbia Pictures from 1942.
For twenty years he had the opportunity to photograph the biggest stars of Hollywood, his lens being particularly appreciated by Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford.
