With four engravings and three paintings. [And] Request to the King, for Adélaïde-Marie Rogres Lusignan de Champignelles, widow of Mr. Louis-Joseph de Douhault. Memorandum to be consulted and consultations relating to the Douhault judgments. Second part Paris, Baudoin et Guilleminet, 1807. 2 vol. in-8 stapled, waiting cover. 4 engravings (including 1 portrait) and 3 tables out of text for the first and 2 engravings (including the portrait and a facsimile plate) and a folding table for the second. Rare account of the trial about the identity of the Marquise de Douhault, a mysterious case of multiple disappearances against the background of inheritance around the castle of Chazelet and which will remain unsolved. The trial began during the French Revolution and lasted nearly 40 years. Numerous authors, such as Wilkie Collins with The Woman in White and Geoges Lenôtre with The Woman with No Name, have been inspired by this criminal case. One adds: Collection of old and new songs. Hymnes patriotiques, chançons patriotes, hymns dedicated to God, with canticles sung by François Honoré Touzard. sl, sd (end of XVIIIe s.). In-12 brown calf, smooth spine finely ornamented, boards richly decorated with a beautiful lace frame and large gilt arms in the center (17th century binding). Covers and corners worn, a few small wormholes, the crowns of the arms have been scratched off (certainly during the Revolution). (156) pp. 32 blank ff. (last quire detached). Curious collection of revolutionary and patriotic songs or songs dedicated to the Supreme Being, in a reused binding.
