Created in 1819 at the instigation of the Count of Tournon, then prefect of the Gironde, the Caisse d'Épargne de Bordeaux brought together many local players, including wine merchants and shipowners. In its wake, many other Caisses d'Épargne were created in Aquitaine Poitou-Charentes, reaching 61 establishments at the beginning of the 20th century!
