1 bis. LETTER TO Director and manager, Eliane Papai. Paris Jean-Louis brau and Gil J Wolman, February 5, 1963. 1 volume (210 -275 mm), 38 sheets printed, mimeographed, typed, or serving as a support for an original work, used on the front and a sheet of carbon paper. Dumb cover of grey-green canson paper on which appears in embossing the letter A, spiral binding. Print run of 300 copies. It seems that only a few dozen copies were made. Our copy is identified as one of the first hundred copies containing each an original copy of Cathelin's "Sémantèmes". It is numbered 69 and signed by Jean-Louis Brau. The magazine was associated with the exhibition "the letter and the sign in the contemporary art" organized by the gallery Valerie Schmidt which gathered the artists of the Lettrism. Assembled by hand all the copies are different.This one contains : a printed plate of NO MORE, a metagraphic novel, several poems and an original drawing in Indian ink signed and pasted by Jean-Louis Brau; several poems and 2 original collages by Gil J Wolman, including the hypothetical work Extrait sonore ou pas, one of the very first works of sound art and a work of "typerwriter art" each time unique; an original work by Eliane Papai and various contributions by Jacques Spacagna, Maurice Lemaitre, Isidore Isou, Robberdhay, Jacques de la Villéglé, Robert Altman, Guy Harloff, Lotte Char, and Jean Cathelin. Meeting of the founders of Lettrism, dissidents or excluded from the Lettrist International, future founders of the 2nd Lettrist International and some close artists LA LETTRE A is published one year before the first issue of the UR review, a new series directed by Maurice Lemaitre.
