L.A.S. "Gabriel Fauré", 154 bd Malesherbes [Paris 13 April 1896], to Albert SAMAIN; 1 page in-12, address (telegram).
"I am composing a duet on your ravishing poetry:
Larmes aux fleurs suspendues, Larmes de sources perdues
Aux mousses des rochers coeur !
But here I have to send the title to London tomorrow at the latest and my publisher would like another one than "Larmes" because of a previous melody of mine on verses of Richepin which was called like that.
Could you find a new title, and in this case inform me immediately ? Or do you demand that I keep this one? To which my editor and I will submit immediately! [Fauré's melody was eventually entitled Pleurs d'or, op. 72.
The poem is taken from Au jardin de l'Infante by Samain].
