Abbé de CHOISY: Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire de Louis XIV. Utrecht, Van de Water, 1727. 3 parts in 1 vol. in-12 contemporary brown calf, spine ornamented, spotted edges (some passages underlined in the margins, small crack in one corner). These posthumous memoirs, although disjointed, give us interesting details on the reign of Louis XIV, and amusing portraits of the main characters of the court. The abbé de Choisy, whose famous particularity is to have been dressed by his mother as a girl until the age of 18, and to have periodically revived this fantasy afterwards, writes in a pleasant style enamelled with anecdotes and good words. Nice copy.
