GIRARDIN (Stanislas de). Promenade ou Itinéraire des jardins d'Ermenonville, to which twenty-five of their principal views, drawn and engraved by Mérigot fils, have been attached. In Paris, by Mérigot, Brunot-Labbe, Le Normant ; and M. Richard, at the castle of Ermenonville, 1811. In-8, [2] f., 63 p., [2] f., pl., half plum morocco à la Bradel et à coins, smooth spine, gilt title, date and number, gilt head [Carayon] (brown transfers opposite the plates).
New edition illustrated like the original of 1788, with 25 plates engraved in black manner, and including at the end 2 pages of engraved music, "Chanson du berger de la Grolle verte".
Provenance: given by the author to Elisabeth Daniels, Countess Foy, wife of Maximilien Sébastien Foy, general and baron of the Empire. A handwritten, possibly autograph, note appears on a cover: "hommage de l'auteur à Mde la comtesse Foy, 20 janvier 1825".
It is at the end of this same year 1825 that General Foy will disappear; the Countess Foy having died in 1868, it is probably one of her descendants who entrusted the binding of this copy to Carayon, active in Paris from 1875 to 1909, and to place his gilded cipher, including the letter "F", at the tail of the spine.
