CHATEAUBRIAND (François-René de). Mémoires d'outre-tombe. Paris : Eugène, Victor Penaud frères, 1849-1850. - 12 volumes in-8, stapled, untrimmed. First edition. A paperback copy, as issued, complete in the first volume of the booklet "a" containing the warning, the list of subscribers as well as the letter from Chateaubriand to the publisher Delloye. This booklet was not originally included in this copy and was added afterwards; it has therefore remained loose. Volumes 3 and 7 are each enriched with 3 copper engravings after Moraine, and volumes 10, 11 and 12 with one engraving, 2 unsigned and one engraved also after Moraine, taken from the first illustrated edition of 1850. The covers are on the whole well preserved, presenting however some soiling and sometimes a few stains, except for volumes 6, 11 and 12 which present sometimes important lacks on the spine and are partly or totally uncropped . Volume 3 has stains on the first cover. This same volume as well as the 7th, 10th, and 11th have browned spines. The cover of the last volume is entirely browned. Tear without missing on the first cover of volume 8, restorations on the cover of the same volume. Label "A. Le Brument, libraire-éditeur" in Rouen stuck on the cover of the first two volumes, and "Dion-Lambert" on the cover of the last volume. Stamp "Publications illustrées - Bordeaux" on the cover of volumes 3, 7, 10, 11 and 12. Light staining without gravity in volumes 7 and 9. Some foxing.
