Very rare first edition of Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly's first novel.
A good copy enriched with an autograph letter from the author. The name of the addressee has unfortunately been covered with ink.
Wear on the edges of the boards and on the headpieces. Black marks on the edges of pages 80 and 81.
