Paris : René Pincebourde, 1866. - 2 volumes in one in-12, blue half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt head, untrimmed (period binding).
First edition in a small number of the first two series of this collection of literary and artistic portraits by Theodore de Banville. The first volume is illustrated with a portrait of the author surrounded by 16 small portraits in medallion, engraved by Ulm.
EXAMPLE OF THE ACTOR CONSTANT COQUELIN, whose portrait Banville made on page 97 of the first series, bearing this autograph dispatch on the false title:
"To my old friend Coquelin // designated hereafter // his devoted and French poet // Th. de Banville"
