Turbo!
French title
Born in 1976, the Porsche 924 was born to support the
928 in the range of the German manufacturer PMA for
Porsche with front engine supposed to replace the old
911 too expensive for a major part of the population.
With its Audi four-cylinder engine at the front and its gearbox at the rear, this half-sport, half-GT car was
particularly well-balanced; for reasons of economy,
Porsche dipped into the Volkswagen group’s catalogue
of parts at the time, with Audi supplying a large part
of the engine and gearbox, VW fixing the running gear
and brakes, as well as numerous other appendages in the
passenger compartment. It had all the qualities to be a
success and to reach a young public like the 914 in the
late 1960s. Produced for twelve years in almost 150,000
units, the 924 remains one of the biggest commercial
successes in Porsche’s history. On the strength of its
experience in competition, the firm developed a Turbo
version with a completely new engine assembled in
Stuttgart. With a capacity of 2 litres, it is equipped with
a KKK turbo that can deliver 170 horsepower, despite
the fact that the most fanatical fans of the brand will
never stop denigrating this model, which is so interesting,
especially in the Turbo version.
The car we are presenting is a rare 1981 Turbo version.
Equipped with an Imasaf pot, the combination of its
beige interior and its dark colour suits it very well.
Our test drive revealed no malfunctions. This is a rare
opportunity to acquire a mythical car of the 80’s, in one
of the most enviable versions.
