Red dress, leather steering wheel, aluminium gear lever
grille, rev counter, the recipe concocted by Ferrari for
more than half a century still makes the enthusiasts and
the lucky ones who have been able to take it in hand
dream. The 348 is no exception to the rule, presented in
1989, it is the first Ferrari built after the founder’s death
and it has the good fortune to have been partly designed
by the father of the F40 and the 288 GTO.
Our example is a TB model; the B stands for ‘berlinette’
which means coupe and the T refers to the position of
the gearbox located transversely to the engine. With its
300hp 3.4L V8 engine, the 348 puts the shine back on
the prancing horse badge by putting the speed factor at
the centre, which the 308 and 328 models had somewhat
neglected.
On board, the driver used to the brand immediately finds
his bearings; a small black leather steering wheel with
the caballero’s logo immediately falls under the hands
and the mythical orange-backed meters remind us of the
first goal of this car: sport.
If all the materials are in line with what Ferrari has been
offering for the last ten years, the interior can sometimes
seem to be of rather poor quality and we can see that the
brand was still searching for interior design before the
arrival of the modern era and the onboard computers.
The gearbox and clutch are firm but you would
expect nothing less from a Ferrari with a mechanical
transmission, the seats are perfectly enveloping but lack
a bit of comfort, the engine once warmed up takes more
than 7000 rpm in a roaring sound that never seems to
stop.
With 17,000 km on the odometer since leaving the
factory, our Pozzi delivered car was well maintained and
followed by them.
The last checks carried out were on the braking system
so that this magnificent Italian coupe could attack the
country roads with peace of mind.
Treat yourself to the ‘Baby Testarossa’ in beautiful
condition and enjoy a real smiling machine that does
so much good that it should be reimbursed by social
security.
