Serial number ZAMBB18B000013165 Rare original colour Original Ferrari engine French registration There are many cars that immediately put a smile on your face, but there are few that are born with bad press and completely reverse their image in a test drive. The Maserati 4200 is one of them; often judged as a car for people who only want to be noticed, easy to drive and which does not leave the posh streets of the big capitals or the seaside of the most popular seaside resorts; however, it is not so. It’s true that the car is beautiful and enviable, but it is also discreet and blends easily into the traffic, it is neither large nor imposing and it is also silent. But honestly it was not designed for that and especially when you know what is hidden under its long plunging bonnet; a V8 of Ferrari origin of 4.2L of displacement for 400 horses in this version. The engine produces a roaring sound and revs up when you touch the right pedal with your foot (having respected the warm-up time). Inside, everything is Italian finesse and refinement: the finesse and refinement is provided by the omnipresence of leather and the elements of the dashboard that are more tributes than real measures, such as the watch embedded in the top of the central tunnel. On the other hand, the Italian side of the car is a sign of poor finish and this is often the case after a few tens of thousands of kilometres where the plastics do not hold up, for example. Our 2006 model is a spyder version (or spider, one could say both) which presents itself in an aesthetic configuration that is as interesting as it is surprising. The car is covered in a ‘Spectro’ colour that suits it very well and is accompanied by a Havana interior. The car is easy to drive, but can be a bit tricky in wet weather or if the road is greasy. The 6-speed sequential gearbox responds well with the obligatory lag time on this version which is not very pleasant but is still much quicker than a Lamborghini E-Gear or a Ferrari F1 gearbox. A folder of invoices will come with the car where we can read a replacement of the front and rear tyres as well as a large number of silent blocks and the clutch. A mechanical overhaul will be required to cover long distances but our test drive showed no anomalies in acceleration and gear shifting. Elegant and sporty, enjoy a well balanced convertible with sound road manners and its little bit of madness when you mash the right pedal.
