Raoul Dufy immortalized this terrace and garden in his famous Green and White Harlequin with Violin, Centre Pompidou Collection (fig. 1). He had stayed there in 1945-1946.
Our painting, which recalls the view of the same
Jardins de Caldas de Montbuy, on a grey day (fig. 2), has a tight framing comparable to the version in the Ludovic Massé collection (fig. 3).
The effect of depth is accentuated here by a refined composition. The terrace and the façade are clear and bright.
