Among the Dan and Wé people of western Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, this bowl, elegantly engraved all over its wall with traditional decorative motifs, was used to hold the rice that women distributed to the villagers during masquerades. Its counterpart was the famous wa ke mia spoon, an honour conferred on the most generous donor in the village.
