Mother-of-pearl and silk garments, Europe, ca. 1770-1780
Folded fan, the silk leaf painted on a background striped with flowers highlighted with sequins or white mother-of-pearl on either side of a central cartel. A young woman with a fan is in conversation with a couple. Their clothes are made of silk, the heads of ivory*.
The reverse side is made of painted skin with bouquets of flowers.
A finely cut, engraved and gilded ivory* mounting of a musician playing guitar for a lady. Gilded metal clasp.
