The arrival of the messenger, China, 19th century Folded fan, the double sheet of gouache-painted paper of 50 figures waiting on palace terraces for the message of a rider who appears on the left. On the reverse side, a large assembly is gathered on terraces. All wear silk clothing, and ivory heads* in relief. Red lacquered bamboo mount with gold decoration of a meeting of scholars in a garden. Metal clasp.
