Standing figure, M6, h. 12 cm. Sculpture representing a standing figure with stylized features, from the Mezcala culture of Guerrero, between 350 and 100 B.C. This ancestral and very localized lapidary tradition has fascinated contemporary artists and collectors since its discovery in the middle of the last century for its extremely "modern" abstraction and minimalism. The face has schematized features. The mouth is evoked by a slit. The horizontal and slightly protruding eyebrows create a shadowy area that evokes the eyes. The head has a high, rounded shape. The top of the skull is not polished, unlike the body. The shoulders are short and square. The arms are not sculpted, the forearms on the other hand are signified on the bottom of the stomach in a horizontal position, with the hands joined above the crotch. The legs, which are rather short compared to the rest of the body, are slightly arched and separated. The face has schematized features. The mouth is evoked by a slit.
