Charles Le Morvan
PHOTOGRAPHIC AND SYSTEMATIC MAP OF THE MOON, 1914
Portfolio containing the first series of 24 high quality heliogravures, 505 x 385 mm, numbered I to XXIV, protected by 24 silk paper serpents, printed with the outlines and legends of the lunar features.
This sumptuous publication was made possible by a grant of 4000 Frs from the Bonaparte Foundation. Le Morvan undertook to complete it with a second series of plates numbered Ia to XXIVa, less finished and without the serpents, and attempted a final unfinished supplement of 6 plates in 1924, of which two or three copies are known.
It is the most beautiful photographic lunar atlas published in France, after the works of Loewy and Puiseux.
