German resident in Shanghai.
PHOTOGRAPHIC DIARY OF A STAY IN AND AROUND SHANGHAI, 1905-1906
Imposing folio album, titled Reise Errinerungen, more than 600 well-contrasted citrate contact prints, medium size 9?x?7 cm, captioned in German and dated 1905-1906, one print missing, about ten faded.
Without leaving his name, the author indicated his presence on many group portraits with the German word "Ich", me. He was probably a salesman in an import-export company and lived in a boarding house. He documents with rare precision the places where he passed, the rooms where he stayed, the restaurants where he had lunch, his excursions, his meetings, incidents such as the flood of September 2, 1905 or the demonstration of December 18, 1905.
