Circle of Isabelle Massieu (1844-1932) JOURNEY TO INDIA AND HIMALAYA BY ISABELLE MASSIEU, 1894-1895 Strong album in-4, 1/2 black chagrin with corners, blue-black percaline covers, 220 prints captioned in French, the large formats (40) are albumines of professional photographers, the small formats (180 approximately) some of which represent the traveller herself. The albumen prints are of good quality, the contrasts well preserved, the citrates have variable tonalities. The album is arranged in chronological order of the cities visited: Madura, Trichinopoly, Haiderabad, Pondicherry, Bombay, Ahmedabad, Amber, Jeypur, Lahore, Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Benares, Calcutta, Darjeeling. Isabelle Massieu is seen leaving a hotel on an elephant. Isabelle Massieu was an author and explorer, member of the Geographical Society, who made a series of exceptional voyages between 1892 and 1914. Five of her photographic albums, preserved in the Musée de l'Homme, were the subject of a note by Kim Timby in 1996. The person who accompanied him has not been identified
