Collection of four rare booklets comprising a total of 64 sixteenth-century songs for tenor.
It is composed as follows:
- Tiers livre de chansons à quatre parties... Paris, 1573: 23 chansons.
- Quatrieme livre de chansons à quatre parties... Paris, 1573: 14 songs.
- Second book composed in four parts... Paris, 1577: 15 songs.
- Unzieme livre de chansons à quatre et cinq parties... Paris, 1578: 12 chansons.
Each booklet consists of 16 leaves and has a title set in a beautiful woodcut frame with scrollwork, figures of Pan and Apollo and two musical putti.
Among these composers are Jacques Arcadet, Jean Maillard, Pierre Certon, Clément Janequin, Desbordes, Delafont, de Bussy, Lescure, Grouzy, etc.
These scores with notated music are very rare and it is difficult to gather all the parts (tenor, superius, contratenor and bassus).
Foliation of leaves 6 and 8 of the Tiers livre partly cut. Restored paper loss in the lower part of folio 5 of the fourth book, with small loss of text in the noted air of the last staff. Stains to a few leaves.
