FRENCH SCHOOL of the 18th century Philippe de France, duc d'Anjou, proclaimed King of Spain under the name of Philippe V on November 16, 1700 Oil on canvas Beginning of the 18th century Height : 138 cm - Width : 104,8 cm This large painting offers an interesting iconography of the public announcement made by Louis XIV on November 16, 1670 in Versailles of the accession of his grandson Philippe V to the Spanish ambassador, the Marquis Castel dos Rios. One can read the names of all the actors present at this event designated by numbers. The Palace of Versailles keeps a painting on the same subject by François Gérard from a much later period.
