Victor PETER (1840-1918) Two friends Bronze with light brown patina. Signed V. PETER. Bears the mark Susse Fres Edrs PARIS and the circular insert of the founder and the letter M. Titled TWO FRIENDS. RF 1080, LUX 130; Victor Peter, Two Friends, bronze, gift of Baron Alphonse de Rothschild in 1899, Arras, Musée des Beaux-Arts, no longer extant. A pupil of Devaulx and Falguière, Victor Peter took part in the Salon from 1873 onwards, and was responsible for statues decorating the Hôtel de Ville in Paris and the Grand Palais. Towards the end of his career, he collaborated with Rodin. Our bronze group was presented in its marble version at the 1895 Salon, and a bronze version at the 1900 Exposition Universelle (n°497).
