A pupil of Devaulx and Falguière, Victor Peter took part in the Salon from 1873 onwards, and was responsible for statues decorating the Hôtel de Ville in Paris and the Grand Palais. Towards the end of his career, he collaborated with Rodin. Our bronze group was presented in its marble version at the 1895 Salon, and a bronze version at the 1900 Exposition Universelle (n°497).
