Along with Minerva and Venus, the figure of Juno is part of a group forming one of the nine-light candelabra of classical inspiration made to decorate the fireplace of the Duke of Montpensier around 1840. Around 1865, Antoine-Louis Barye made Juno an independent work. The edition of the model is then continued by the founder Peyrol.
Hippolythe Peyrol was first a pupil of Barye, then he became a publisher, especially for his sister-in-law Rosa Bonheur and her husband Isidore.
