Dogossié recade
Burkina Faso
Bronze
H. 45 cm
According to information from Maine Durieu, this bronze recade is a prestigious object linked to the Dogossié culture. This people, close to the Senufo, occupies a small territory in the southwest of Burkina Faso.
According to André Blandin (1988), this work could be a rare recade associated with the Poro initiation society.
This insignia of authority is exceptional for its age, the elegance of its form and the quality of its ornamentation. The line in relief ending in two dots would evoke a sacred python. A comparable object is reproduced in the reference work by Blandin (op.cit., p. 71).
