Born in Chasselay in the Rhône on April 8, 1830, he died in 1918. He is a painter of genre, landscape, scene of the familiar life and still life, he is the pupil of Claude Bonnefond to the Fine Arts of Lyon. His two sons Franck Antoine (1858-1924) and Joseph (1862-1921) followed the same path. He made his debut at the Lyon Salon in 1854, where he exhibited a studio interior that was an immediate success with critics and the public.
