[VALÉRY (Paul)] - POZZI (Catherine). Two portraits of Paul Valéry, seen from three-quarters. Original drawing signed and annotated by Valéry. May 24, 1930.
Graphite on paper, signed "Pozzi". Approximately 23 x 20 cm. Framed, under glass. (Small chips in the frame.)
The writer has written on the same sheet, also in pencil: "Seen and approved by Paul Valéry 24 May MCMXXX".
In 1930, the tumultuous affair that had united Valéry and Catherine Pozzi between communion and heartbreak for nearly eight years had ended, on Catherine's initiative, wishing to escape the somewhat predatory egotism of her lover. Catherine Pozzi died in December 1934, at the age of 52, suffering from tuberculosis.
