LOUIS-FRANÇOIS FEUCHERE (1737-1823), ATTRIBUTED TO A Very beautiful pair of sconces "with swans" with five arms of light in matte patinated and gilt bronze. The composition rests on a chiselled console decorated with a flower and a palmette. The cornucopia-shaped arms of light end in basins chiseled with scales and punctuated with agraphs and swans' heads. The whole is surmounted by a large swan with spread wings. France, first quarter of the 19th century. H. 37 cm, W. 48.5 cm (Electricity holes) Related works : - Château de Fontainebleau, light arms delivered in 1810 by Thomire Duterne and Cnie. - Former collection of the Duke of Frioul, then acquisition by the Garde-Meuble. - Former collection of Prince Giovanni Torlonia di Roma. History : The attribution to Louis-François Feuchère of the model we present is explained by their similarities with the four pairs ordered to Louis-François Fauchère for the Gallery of the Château de Meudon delivered in July and November 1811. At that time, they were topped by an eagle. The initial decoration of these arms was modified during the Restoration with the removal of the imperial emblems. A statement of the expenditure necessary for the maintenance of the royal furniture of Meudon, dated January 4, 1816 provides "to remove the eagles sui are in the arms of chimney of the Gallery. Biography : Pierre François Feuchere (1737-1823) belonged to a family of gilders, whose father's clientele included members of the royal family, and he was awarded the title of master chaser-gilder in 1767. The Feuchere family lived through the Revolution and continued to see their business flourish during the Empire and the Restoration, selling their stock and workshop in 1824 and 1829.
