Censer representing "Macuixóchitl These figures often called "Xantil "are representative of the region between Oaxaca and Puebla. They are made up of a cylindrical part forming the body from which emerge the arms and legs bent to the side. The elbows rest on the knees and the arms are adorned with green bracelets. The face is adorned with symbolic body paintings and the mouth opens onto a row of teeth. This is the deity "Macuixóchitl," a name that signifie the "Five fleurs" in Aztec. This avatar of the god Xochipili (god of the fleurs and vegetation) is richly adorned. Green circular earrings with scrolls adorn his ears and a high headdress consists of a wide bow with four bands, held in the center by a green medallion, with designs similar to that of the earrings. An arch formed by three circles surmounts the whole. On the back, the headdress ends in a fin that covers the nape of the neck. This brazier was used to burn copal, the thick smoke of which escaped through the perforated mouth and the shoulders, thus facilitating communication with the gods.
