Straw flowers, Europe, ca. 1770-1780
Folded fan, the silk leaf painted with three labels. Shepherd and shepherdess among their animals frame a gallant scene. A young woman is showering flowers on the man of her heart. On either side, vases and medallions painted and highlighted with sequins or chain stitch. Dominoes are represented at the foot of the vases.
Reverse: sketch of a man fishing.
Mounted in ivory* cut, engraved and gilded with flowers in vases, and decorated with flowers in natural or coloured straw.
