This model was a total innovation for the brand, because the engine was completely new and the gearbox was coupled to the rear axle. The style and design of the bodywork is also completely new. To support the 928, Porsche launched the following year, in collaboration with Volkswagen, a lower model called 924 which was not very successful. However, the intermediate version presented in 1981, the 944 with its real Porsche engine, was a success. The replacement for the 944 arrived in 1991.
