Abbot Colla de Pradines, chaplain by district, is mentioned in 1789 in the list of the House of Madame Countess of Artois. He is represented here in front of a desk on which are placed notes mentioning the model, his qualities, and a breviary with his arms.
A much appreciated painter of the Bordeaux Society, Wertmüller belonged to the promising group of Swedish artists in France, along with his uncle Alexandre Roslin, who was especially active in Paris, and Pehr-Eberhard Cogell, who lived in Lyon. Among his most famous models are Marie-Antoinette and George Washington.
