Although his engraved work is much less known than his paintings or drawings, it is nevertheless a field in which Pablo Picasso has -here again- particularly distinguished himself.
Reappropriating the classic genre of art history, the still life, he painted them at different periods in his career. The motif of the lobster can be found in several of his works, such as Still Life with a Cat and a Lobster, 1962 (Private Collection) and Cat and Lobster, 1965 (Fondation Beyeler).
This brightly coloured aquatint was engraved in the eminent workshop of Roger Lacourière who, in addition to Picasso, contributed to the distribution of the engraved work of many major artists of the early 20th century such as Dali, Matisse, Braque and Chagall.
