Los Angeles 1984. Opening ceremony © André Lecoq/L'Équipe 28 July 1984. The Games of the 23rd Olympiad of the modern era were launched in front of 92,000 spectators at the Los Angeles Memo- rial Coliseum and 2.5 billion television viewers. But the welcome message was only addressed to 140 nations, while some 15 states from the communist bloc, led by the USSR, did not make the trip. This was a response to the boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics launched by the United States and followed by some 50 countries to protest against the invasion of Afghanistan. An event on a global scale, the Games inevitably echo the conflicts that cross it. Single later print. Edition 1/1. Printed on Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta Satin 300g paper. Flamant art frame. 80 x 120 cm
