[Celestial Spaces] Around the Moon by Jules Verne. Illustrations by Émile Bayard and A. de Neuville. Paris, Bibliothèque d'Éducation et de Récréation, J. Hetzel et Cie, sd (1872). Large single in-8°, publisher's full bladder green percaline binding "aux bouquets de roses" of the 3rd type. Gilt edges. Blue-green endpapers. Charles Magnier Bookbinder. Printed by Gauthier-Villars (Formerly Bonaventure). First illustrated edition of the first issue with the two errors (the typo "Chapitre Prélimaire" and the absence of Jules Verne's name on p. 1, cf. Jauzac p. 74) and first single cardboard binding. A magnificent copy! Extremely rare edition of the very first issue, here in a bright and superb colour. The errors mentioned above were discovered by Piero Gondolo della Riva in the copy in the Houghton Library, Harvard University (USA). He assumed that these errors were only present in the issues and never in the bound versions. Since then, the discovery of some very rare copies in hardback has refuted this first analysis. Let us add that there is an intermediate issue with the final print run where the typo "Chapitre Prélimaire" is corrected but where Jules Verne's name is still missing.
