Matthew Gregory LEWIS. The Monk. Paris, Denoël & Steele, 1931. In-8, paperback. First edition of this very personal adaptation of the most famous noir novel by Antonin Artaud.
One of 25 copies on hollande, second paper after only 5 japons (and before 150 alfas), bound in a double cover as are only the large papers.
The first cover, printed on elephant paper, serves to hide a second one, illustrated with a sadistically inspired photograph of a crime scene in which Artaud himself appears in monk's costume.
Very rare on japan and hollande.
Restorations on the back cover, small wear on the edges of the illustrated cover.
