MASTER CLOCK WITH REVOLVING DIAL MOVEMENT SIGNED BY JAQUIER IN GENEVA LOUIS XVI PERIOD
Gilt bronze, steel
H. 19 cm, L. 11 cm
This small master clock in chased and gilded bronze presents a beautiful neoclassical ornamentation and is inspired by the horizontal revolving dial models in vogue during the Louis XVI period. This dial has the advantage of being harmoniously and discreetly integrated into the composition of the clock. In the model we present, the rotating steel dial is set in a pedestal vase decorated with a garland of laurel, water leaves, ears of corn and strings of pearls. The two side grips are formed by roosters with spread wings. At the top, a cupid lies on a rocky mound and indicates the time with a rod in his right hand, his left hand resting on a sphere. The quadrangular base is soberly underlined by a laurel garland. The cock watch movement is signed by Jaquier in Geneva. Several representatives of this family of watchmakers were active in Switzerland at the end of the Louis XVI period.
