A PAIR OF SCONCES " WITH MUSIC TROPHIES ".
France, Louis XV period Gilt bronze
H. 55 cm, W. 37 cm, D. 20 cm
This rare pair of sconces in chased and gilt bronze is composed of three arms of light and draws all its originality from its openwork brackets. All curves and counter curves, the shaft is decorated with scrolls, foliage and plant clasps, typical of mid 18th century productions. A trophy of musical instruments is placed at the base. By its movement and its rich floral decoration, our pair of sconces is quite comparable to the one kept in the Quirinale Palace in Rome and dated around 1740 (fig.1).
