20th century French school, "Portrait of Jean Sarment (1897-1976) in the role of the King", oil on canvas unsigned, label on the back "couronne de carton, Jardin", circa 1920, 121.5 x 68.5 cm (unframed, some light chipping at the edge).

Couronne de Carton" is the first play by the actor and author Jean Sarment, alias Jean Bellemère, one of the founders of the "Groupe des Sârs" in Nantes. This work was probably produced in 1921 when the play was performed at the "Nouveau Théâtre".
