NASA. SM-68 Titan missile. The SM-68 Titan I is an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). It was the first true multi-stage ballistic missile, and gave rise to civilian launchers (Titan rocket). In the mid-1950s, the United States developed its first intercontinental ballistic missiles. In 1955, the US Air Force decided to launch the development of the SM-68 Titan and Atlas missiles in parallel: the aim was to have an alternative solution in case the development of the Atlas, with its audacious design, failed. Circa 1959, silver print of the period. Typed caption on the back. 25,4 x 20,6CM with margins.
