In 2004, one year after acquiring Château des Laurets, Benjamin de Rothschild decided to create an exceptional “cuvée monocépage” Made from a selection of 4 hectares of Merlot from the 40 hectares of the vineyard located in the Puisseguin Saint-Emilion and Montagne Saint-Emilion appellations, and only produced during exceptional vintages: This demanding challenge will wait until 2015. At the request of Ariane de Rothschild, the craftsman, engraver and glass sculptor Gilles Chabrier has designed a unique relief decoration for each bottle, with interlacing vines and stylised vines. Each work is protected by a custom-made glass case that protects the wine from vibrations, temperature variations and ultraviolet rays, thus guaranteeing optimal conservation until tasting. The sale of these exceptional bottles will benefit the OPEJ-Baron Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. The OPEJ Foundation has its origins in the Jewish underground resistance: it was founded in 1945 under the name of OPEJ (Œuvre de Protection des Enfants Juifs). It became the Baron Edmond de Rothschild OPEJ Foundation in 2012, and its vocation is still to protect children against all forms of mistreatment, abandonment, abuse and neglect. Its work with young people is inseparable from its work with families. The funds raised during this sale will finance sports and cultural activities. Since 2015, at the wheel of a Jaguar MK1, the crew composed of Pierre Le Glohaec, Alexandre Brasseur, and Guillaume Le Metayer - has been taking part in the Tour Auto Optic 2000 under the colours of the OPEJ. They are followed every year on social networks by all the residents of the Foundation's children's homes.
