FRENCH SCHOOL OF THE 19TH CENTURY Portrait of François Chevalier de Guillaumanches du Boscage, captain of ships. Knight of the orders of Saint Louis and Malta, prior of Ably, born on 24/07 1742 and died in 1806 Oil on canvas (wear) With inscription on the back 74 x 61 cm Without frame Biography : François, Chevalier DE GUILLAUMANCHES, prior of Alby, knight of the royal and military order of Saint Louis, born in 1742, captain of vaissaux in 1792, received knight of Malta, July 28, 1774. He was in Malta as a knight of this order at the time of the capture of this island by Buonaparte on June 17, 1798, but he was among the knights who kept pure and without stain the faith they had sworn to their order. Since then, being without asylum, he returned to France and died at Issoire in Auvergne on January 29, 1805. The family motto is: Nunquam Jugatus. Related work: Gabriel, the older brother of Francois Chevalier de Guillaumanches du Boscage, mestre de camp de cavalerie and knight of the military order of Saint Louis, born in 1840.
