He was in Malta as a knight of this order at the time of the capture of this island by Buonaparte on June 17, 1798, but he was among the knights who kept pure and without stain the faith they had sworn to their order. Since then, being without asylum, he returned to France and died at Issoire in Auvergne on January 29, 1805. The family motto is: Nunquam Jugatus.
