Porcelain cup with tin enamel with polychrome decoration in the style of Chinese porcelain famille rose of Chinese women and children in gardens and palaces and of flowering branches.
Four characters mark in red imitating a Chinese mark on the reverse.
Middle of the 18th century.
H. 7 cm.
Three small chips restored on the edge, small crack on the edge and small chips on the heel.
Provenance: Former collection of Madame Brasseur de Lille, sale in Paris, Galerie Georges Petit, 1st June 1928, lot 56.
A very similar pseudo Chinese mark appears on a pair of vases with Kakiemon decoration presented during the exhibition "La fabrique de l'extravagance. Porcelaines de Meissen et de Chantilly" at the Musée Condé, Château de Chantilly in 2020, described as Chantilly porcelain, an attribution we do not share. (Reproduced in the exhibition catalogue under n° 12).
