Small marginal wetness to the first leaves of volume II. Discoloured band on the lower cover of volume I, worm hole at the top of the lower spine of volume II.

Engraved frontispiece by Chaussieu. Copies with the arms of the Countess of Verrue, Jeanne-Baptiste d'Albert de Luynes. She married the Duke of Savoy for the second time, then, having returned to Paris, opened her hotel in the rue du Cherche-midi to intellectuals, writers and philosophers. "The Countess de Verrue was passionately fond of letters and the arts (...) She collected everything beautiful. Her library contained 18,000 choice books."
