Statuette of a seated Hoho (little boy) in biscuit with partial green family glaze, open mouth, holding a ruyi in his hand.
H. 15.5x10x8 cm
Note:
Boy figures were popular in Chinese tradition and linked to the hope of having male offspring. This is a particularly fine example of a figure holding a ruyi in his hands. Similar examples are displayed in important private collections and museums, see for example the former J. P. Morgan and Goldschmidt collections and the Taft Museum. See also the Ralph M Chait Galleries, ASIA WEEK NEW YORK 11-20 MARCH 2021 for an example from the Kangxi period illustrated under number 27.
